Summary

RIFT has been working for several years on a high-quality solution for Priority demand Valves (PDVs). PDVs are a requirement for fire sprinkler systems to ensure the mains water pressure is prioritised to the Fire Safety system, isolating domestic/commercial supply in the event of an alarm trigger or power failure.

As legislation has changed the challenges within the industry have adjusted to ensure mains pressure is maintained for fire systems in the event of power failure or fire alarm trigger. Low energy usage and efficient operation are key challenges within the industry.

Challenge

A particular building project in 2023 required the installation across two residential tower blocks, one 26 floors and one 24 floors. A PDV was required on each floor to allow for independent prioritisation of the supply for the sprinkler system in the event of an alarm trigger or power failure. This presented a unique set of challenges including limited space for infrastructure and low power usage as problems.

Solution

Working with RIFT’s Fire Safety partner the actuator solution utilising RIFT’s RAS Actuator range seamlessly integrated with the building management system and fire safety system. This allowed a complex install to go ahead with direct support from RIFT during the commissioning.
